David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel filming Bones in London
Here’s one from the archives from last year, from the day that I bumped into David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel filming Bones on London’s South Bank!
I’d gone out to meet a client for coffee to discuss some ideas for her portfolio shoot, and we ended up sitting overlooking the river outside the Royal Festival Hall. We were talking about possible locations for the shoot, and I told her how I’d been wanting to do something on the foreshore of the Thames down by the Oxo Tower. We walked over to take a look, and as we got closer we approached what looked like a crime scene - the whole area was cordoned off, there were police everywhere and a gruesome looking corpse in a car that had been dredged out of the river, not what you expect after a nice coffee! Then I started to notice all the lighting gear, the tv cameras and the crew, and then when I spotted David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel the penny dropped…
I’d heard rumours that the opening episodes of Bones season 4 were going to be filmed in London, and it turned out to be true! I haven’t read the books by Kathy Reichs, but I’m a fan of the TV show, so I got a real kick out of seeing this happening in a location that I’m really familiar with. I really enjoy seeing London on screen, and it’s not something you see often on American tv shows.
I watched them setting up and filming for a while, and I was amazed at how close the public were allowed to get to the action. I managed to get some pretty decent photos, so much the better for being able to crop in nice and tight.
One of the other actors I recognised was Michael Brandon, who was in the 80s cop show Dempsey and Makepeace, and more recently played the title role in Jerry Springer: The Opera.
